LUMA is bringing its self-serve gelato to Brisbane, with its first store here at LIV Anura on Skyring Terrace in Newstead. The grand opening celebration kicks off at 1pm on Thursday 15 October 2026. Billed as Australia’s first self-serve gelateria, LUMA started out in Mooloolaba, and the idea is simple and fun: you build your own cup, picking your flavours, toppings and sauces as you go.

Why we’re excited

On our 10 October visit, mint-coloured seating, cream patterned tiles and gold fittings gave the room an elegant, European feel. Curved counters make room for customers to choose their toppings and sauces.

LUMA makes its gelato fresh in-house, using premium Italian and locally sourced ingredients, according to the team.

Opening offer

LUMA is giving away 2,000 complimentary LUMAs over four weeks, released as 500 a week. The first 500 go from 1pm on Thursday 15 October, at the grand opening.

  • For LUMA Rewards members only, with one redemption per member.
  • Each free LUMA covers up to $10. Anything over $10 is paid by the customer.
  • LUMA will post the registration link, full terms and each weekly drop on its social media. Each drop is announced separately.

What to order

Build your own cup. You can begin with toppings, add gelato and finish with another layer, or start with gelato if you prefer. Labels visible during our visit included pistachio, hazelnut, macadamia and gummy bears.
